[2009-12-11] UEFA confirms Ukraine's four cities to host UEFA EURO 2012
On the second day of its meeting in Funchal, Madeira (Portugal), the UEFA Executive Committee has today made its decision concerning the selection of host cities for UEFA EURO 2012 in Ukraine, the UKRINFORM Information Center 'Ukraine-2012' has reported.
After the UEFA officials examined and discussed the state of infrastructure preparations in Ukraine and carefully considered the documents and guarantees submitted to UEFA by the Ukrainian government and the candidate cities, the UEFA Executive Committee has decided that Kyiv, Donetsk, Lviv and Kharkiv will all host matches at UEFA EURO 2012. In addition, UEFA has confirmed Kyiv as the venue of the final match of UEFA EURO 2012.
The President of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU), Hryhoriy Surkis, said at the Committee meeting that Ukraine has made a number of important steps toward UEFA and the football tournament in frames of European standards. According to him, despite lack of time at the early stage Ukraine has managed to build a steady structure of organizations responsible for the project at interstate, central and local levels.
Thus, the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, to be held in Poland and Ukraine from 9 June until 1 July 2012, will be staged in eight cities: four Ukrainian cities (Kyiv, Donetsk, Lviv, Kharkiv) and four Polish cities (Wroclaw, Poznan, Gdansk, Warsaw). The UEFA EURO 2012 kick-off match will take place in Warsaw.
